Donation from Santander Foundation to go toward revamping the carer’s visitor room at Brodie Ward
Mind Your Head has received a £5,000 grant from the Santander Foundation to go towards the costs of revamping the carer’s visitor room at Brodie Ward in Cornhill Hospital, Aberdeen. The grant was provided from the Foundation’s Community Plus initiative.
The donation will be used to improve facilities in the carer visitor room, which carers can stay in for up to three nights. Furthermore, information for carers travelling from the isles will be created - this will include practical advice regarding public transport, visiting hours, etc along with information for when returning home. The donation will also go toward purchasing general items for patients and carers such as playing cards, dominoes, games and jigsaws.
Jacqui Clark, Team Leader with Mind Your Head said: “We have received many comments and suggestions from carers about improvements that could be made and this donation will go a long way to delivering many of their ideas.”
Mind Your Head are meeting with the local mental health carers group before the end of October to finalise ideas and plans. They will also be in touch with Brodie Ward staff as well as the Aberdeen mental health carers group to ensure the donation meets the needs of carers and patients travelling to Aberdeen.
A representative from Santander said: “Community Plus allows our staff and customers to nominate local charities that are most in need of assistance. We are delighted to be supporting Mind Your Head and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.” The Community Plus fund provides grants of up to £5,000 to small, local charities with funding available to cover salaries, equipment or materials.
