The 10th Anniversary Fun Run and Walk took place yesterday in Cunningsburgh. The sunny day brought out participants from across Shetland.
Over 550 people took in the 2015 event, which saw the local charity also celebrate it's 10th year. The Fun Run & Walk has always been hailed as a way to promote mental health and wellbeing with participants asked to walk or run the 5k or 10k route. It truly is a family affair with all ages taking part and celebrating their achievements with tea and cake in the hall afterwards.
Mind Your Head Chair, Shona Manson, said "It was superb to see so many folk supporting the event again and we have got the ‘real runners’ and you have the mams and dads and granddads and parents with pushchairs. It is a real family event.” She added, “People can take time to think about mental health and what it means to them. I know we can all make a huge difference to each other just by being more open about mental health."
This year was also an opportunity for the Mind Your Head to raise awareness of their proposed support service. Anouska Civico, who is working with the charity to develop services, said "It was really humbling to see so many people there supporting the work of the charity and the atmosphere was really fantastic. It provides real proof that people are behind our proposed developments and support these important changes that will be happening over the next year."
Mind Your Head extend their grateful thanks to all who helped on the day and for everyone who took part and made donations. The total amount raised will be announced later when individual's sponsorships are gathered.
Mind Your Head would also like to remind anyone who pre-registered but did not collect their t-shirt on the day to contact us.
