Well Anita made her climb up Kilimanjaro!
She finished the gruelling climb on 29th October after 7 days trekking.
Anita describes they experience “even though I’ve read up on Kilimanjaro and have watched numerous film footage it was not at all what I expected. It was by far the hardest think I’ve ever put my body through. What I expect boot camp to be. Wake up calls at 5.15 am and a trek of 7hours on average did push me to my limits. I thought I would be bored on an evening but I was so tired I just slept!”
Throughout the year, Anita has been raising money for Mind Your Head. She has held numerous fundraising events including climbing Ronas Hill, Fitness Glo Extravaganza, bag packing and the successful band night at the Legion and as of today her total amount raised is £14,571.57 She has a final fundraising event planned for Friday 12th October which is a disco at the Legion at 8pm- 1am. £8 pay on the door.
Anita said about the amount raised” I’m absolutely overwhelmed about the amount raised and I always believed I would raise £10,000 through the numerous fundraising activities but this has just exceeded my expectations, I get emotional just thinking about it. I just can’t thank everyone enough for all your support. Shetland is amazing, people are so kind.”
Anouska Civico service Manager said, “I would like to reiterate what Anita has said, the Shetland community is just so generous. When I met Anita I knew she was determined but she really is!! Mind Your Head can’t thank Anita enough. This amount of money is outstanding but it’s not all about the money. Anita’s climb has raised more awareness about mental health in general and the work of our charity.”
How this pot of money will be spent will be announced at a later date.
