The UK government are proposing to reform current sick notes used by doctors. There would be an additional option for GP's which would enable them to state that 'a person may be fit for some work' as well as the present options of either fit for work or unfit for work.
Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) has written to the DWP. Click here to read the whole article, explaining the impact such a change could have on someone affected by mental health problems.
SAMH believe that patients and GPs should be able to fully discuss whether a person is fit for work including the opportunity to discuss what adjustments may help a person back to work. In order for these proposals to work, there should be longer appointments, better access to training available to employers around mental health awareness and stigma.
