The annual Mind Your Head Fun Run and Walk took place on Sunday 21 August in pouring rain... but that didn't stop more than 400 people taking part in the event. 282 people had pre-registered with another 183 registering on the day, giving a total of 465.
This year as well as the run and traditional Sunday Teas we had face painters, children’s games, glitter tattooists and souvenir photos all which proved to be very successful.
The Fun Run and Walk is our biggest event of the year, the aim of the day is to get as many people together from all communities and walks of life to promote and raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental ill-health. It is also a great fundraiser for the charity and this year’s total so far is £5,585.
Anouska Civico, Mind Your Head Project Manager, said “It was amazing to see so many people turn out in what was pretty awful day. It really goes to show the support and generosity of the Shetland community for Mind Your Head and the important work it does. The number of volunteers baking, helping out on the day and in the run up to the event is amazing and we are ever so grateful, thank you to all volunteers and people who turned up on the day. See you all next year!”
Katrina Wiseman, Vice Chair of Mind Your Head, said “This was my first Fun Run as a committee member and I was so amazed at the number of volunteers coming forward to support the charity, a charity which is so important in Shetland. It makes me very proud to be a Shetlander.”
Special thanks goes to our 2016 sponsor DITT Construction Ltd.
